  1. Questionable and Unproven Cancer Therapies

  5. Surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy have been "accepted" cancer treatments for a long time. They are accepted because they were developed after years of study with animals and then
  6. humans. The studies were based on logical,
  7. scientific principles, and the treatments were
  8. then shown to be effective against the
  9. growth of tumors in thousands of people.
  10.     These conventional cancer treatments
  11. are responsible for dramatic improve-
  12. ments in survival over the past few
  13. decades. Where few people used to
  14. survive for long after a cancer diagnosis,
  15. about half of all diagnosed patients are
  16. now cured.
  17.     Every few years or so, the media
  18. present a startling report on some new
  19.
